Outdoor units and enclosures

The Blizzard
The no-compromise security solution is at hand. Ideally suited for the coldest climates and industrial environments, the Blizzard enclosure is constructed of heavy-gauge zinc-plated steel and features a weather-sealed keypad, low-temperature display and heated interior. Even though it protects from incident rain and weather, the unit should be mounted under an enclosure or awning. The Blizzard enclosure is a fully-integrated unit and comes with HandReader and internal heater.

Hurricane
A little rain never hurt anyone, and a lot of rain won’t hurt the Hurricane enclosure. Constructed from high-impact ABS plastic, the unit is designed for direct weather. A generous lid offers protection from driving rain, and the contoured design facilitates water runoff. The Hurricane has been designed so it can be added to an existing installation. When used with a heater-equipped HandReader (INT-HTR option), it provides the ultimate solution for cold weather, direct exposure environments. Order the Hurricane (HURCNE) option with HandPunch 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, HandKey II, CR and CM.

Tsunami
For the harshest environments, the Tsunami enclosure is water sealed and built to NEMA type 4 standards. The HandReader is protected from both splashing and hose-directed water, making it an ideal solution for industrial and food processing areas where hose-directed water is used for cleaning. In addition, when used with a heater-equipped HandReader (INT-HTR option), the Tsunami enclosure can withstand the bleakest of environments. Order the Tsunami (TSNAMI) option with HandPunch 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, HandKey II, CR and CM.

The Integrated Heater (INT-HTR option)
The INT-HTR option includes an integrated heating element, a 24v power supply and an extended range LCD. The temperature-regulated heater element is built into the platen, where users place their hand, providing comfortable and trouble-free use even in the coldest environments. The heater is built directly into the HandReader. Order the INT-HTR option with HandPunch 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, HandKey II, CR and CM.

Enclosures without heaters
Both the Hurricane and Tsunami enclosures can be ordered without heaters for temperate environments where dust, debris and rain are a concern.

Connectivity

Ethernet Module
The Ethernet module allows RSI's FingerKey, HandKey and HandPunch terminals to communicate with host computer over an Ethernet Local Area Network via TCP/IP.  the module is completely internal to our biometric terminals.  Set-up is fast and simple.  Networking flexibility is maximized because multiple hand or finger readers may still be daisy chained via 4-wire RS-485 to a terminal using the Ethernet module.  This allows for a remote location with up to 32 terminals to communicate with the host via a single Ethernet connection.

Modem
The modem is ideal if the terminal is located very far from a host PC or if it is not practical to physically connect the unit to the PC. A network of slave units may be connected to a modem which only needs a simple telephone line.

Contactless smart card technology

A Recognition Systems HandReader equipped with a smart card reader is the perfect match of industry leading biometrics and advanced card technology.

Both the users' ID number and biometric template are stored on the smart card. Users simply put their card into a holster and then place their hand to verify that they are the owner of the card. This convenient holster allows for single hand operation. Upon successful verification, the reader will process the transaction.

Combining a hand or finger reader with a smart card creates a powerful combination of security and portable template management. By employing the card as a storage device, users no longer need worry about complicated network wiring to resolve template distribution.

  • User's template is stored on the card – No privacy issues
  • Unlimited number of users
  • Simplified template management: Since the biometric information for each person is stored on the card, it travels throughout your access control network via the user.
  • Dual factor authentication
  • Seamless integration into existing access control and/or time & attendance systems
